Carers Week 2026 (8th-14th June)

Building carer friendly communities

Music Recovery Workshop

Carers Week is an important national awareness campaign dedicated to recognising and supporting unpaid carers across the UK.
This year’s theme, Building Carer Friendly Communities, highlights the importance of creating places where carers feel recognised, valued and supported.

At Headway Black Country, we understand the essential role carers play in supporting people living with brain injury and other complex conditions. Behind every recovery journey is often a parent, partner, family member or friend providing daily emotional, physical and practical support. Caring responsibilities can be rewarding, but they can also be exhausting, isolating and emotionally demanding.

Carers Week provides an opportunity to celebrate carers, raise awareness of the challenges they face and encourage communities, organisations and services to become more carer friendly.

Supporting Carers in the Black Country

At Headway Black Country, we are committed to helping build a more carer friendly Black Country where carers feel heard, valued and supported. We recognise that carers often place the needs of others before their own wellbeing. By creating stronger networks of support and greater understanding within our communities, we can help ensure carers do not feel alone.

Our work aims to ensure carers have access to:

Information and guidance
Emotional and peer support
Community activities and events
Opportunities to connect with others facing similar experiences
Signposting to specialist services and support
A safe and understanding environment

Every carer deserves access to support, recognition and opportunities to maintain their own wellbeing.

The Challenges Carers Face

Many carers balance multiple responsibilities while supporting loved ones with long-term conditions or brain injuries.
Some carers provide support around the clock while also managing employment, family life and personal wellbeing.

Common challenges carers face include:

Emotional stress and burnout
Financial pressures
Social isolation
Mental health and wellbeing concerns
Lack of recognition and understanding
Difficulty accessing support services

Building carer friendly communities means recognising these challenges and ensuring carers can access the support they need when they need it. During Carers Week, we encourage communities, employers, organisations and decision-makers to recognise the invaluable contribution carers make every single day.

Messages of Appreciation

Carers are often the quiet strength behind recovery and rehabilitation.
At Headway Black Country, we want every carer to know that their dedication, patience and compassion are seen and appreciated. This week, we invite our community to share messages of support, appreciation and encouragement for carers across the Black Country.

Join Us During Carers Week

Throughout the week, we will be sharing stories, awareness content, support information and opportunities for people to get involved. We encourage supporters, families, professionals, employers and local communities to stand with carers and help build a more carer friendly society. Together, we can create stronger, more inclusive communities where carers are recognised, supported and able to thrive.
